JOHOR BAHRU, May 13 — A 28-year-old car repossessor was sentenced to a total of seven months in jail by two magistrates today after pleading guilty to splashing red paint on two houses in the city in separate incidents last year and in April.
Muhamad Yaccob admitted to splashing red paint on a house in Taman Mount Austin on April 7 this year and on a condominium unit in Twin Danga Residensi on December 24 last year. He was sentenced to seven months’ jail for the Taman Mount Austin offence, while a separate magistrates’ court handed him four months’ jail for the Twin Danga Residensi incident, with the sentence ordered to run from his arrest on April 16.
Court documents showed CCTV footage captured Muhamad Yaccob arriving at the homes before splashing paint and fleeing. Police also found bottles of red paint and videos of the attacks on his mobile phone after inspecting the rental car he was driving. Lawyers representing the accused appealed for leniency, saying he was married with two children and earned about RM1,000 a month.
Last month, Johor police said six suspects linked to an illegal money-lending syndicate were arrested over criminal intimidation cases involving paint splashing and Molotov cocktail attacks in several states.
