Bruce Willis is one of Hollywood’s most recognisable stars. However, he has since retired from acting after he was diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia, also known as FTD . In a recent interview, his wife shared an update about his condition that left her with mixed feelings.
British-American model and actress Emma Heming Willis recently made an appearance on the “Conversations With Cam” podcast. On the show, she updated fans on her husband's current condition amid his battle with FTD. In 2022, Bruce’s family revealed his aphasia diagnosis, which progressed to FTD in 2023.During the interview, host Cameron Rogers asked Emma if the actor is aware of his condition, to which she shook her head. According to the 47-year-old, Bruce has another neurological condition called anosognosia, where the brain can’t identify what’s happening to it. Emma added that this condition often comes with FTD and other types of dementia. The star explained, 'People think this might be denial, they don't want to go to the doctor because they're like, 'I'm fine'. This is where the anosognosia comes into play. It's not denial, it's just that their brain is changing. This is a part of the disease.' On how she feels about the situation, Emma called it “the blessing and the curse”.She said, 'Bruce never tapped in. He never connected the dots that he had this disease, and I'm really happy about that. I'm happy he doesn't know about it.' Additionally, Emma clarified that Bruce is “still very much present in his body” and that the family is slowly progressing and adapting along with him. Dementia can be very scary to the family and loved ones of those who suffer from the condition. However, we can clearly see that Bruce’s family is doing their best to communicate with the star and adapt to the changes.
