The completion of 266 out of 577 telecommunication towers under the National Digital Network (JENDELA) Phase 1 initiative has been delayed beyond the nine-month target deadline. YTL Communications Sdn Bhd is the worst performer with no completed projects out of 51 awarded. Penalties for delays include liquidated damages and legal action.
A total of 266 out of 577 telecommunication towers under Phase 1 of the National Digital Network ( JENDELA ) initiative are yet to be operational, surpassing the nine-month target deadline. Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil revealed that YTL Communications Sdn Bhd has failed to complete any of the 51 tower projects they were awarded. Other companies such as CelcomDigi, Maxis, UMobile, and REDTone have also faced delays.
The minister highlighted potential penalties including liquidated damages and legal action against contractors who fail to complete projects on time. As of Oct 31, 1,385 towers have been completed but only 808 are operational. The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has been directed to monitor delays and take necessary actions
