KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah Maju Jaya 2.0 roadmap is not just a continuation of the previous development plan but a comprehensive blueprint aimed at changing mindsets to create new value for the people, said Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor .
He said SMJ 2.0 is a catalyst for transformation that requires self-empowerment, including changes in thinking, working, and creating new value for the well-being of Sabah's people. He said the state government is continuing the SMJ 2.0 roadmap as a new phase to drive competitiveness, productivity, and economic value, ensuring prosperity is enjoyed by all levels of society regardless of race or background. “SMJ 2.0 is a leap-forward phase that emphasises economic development, human capital empowerment and the people’s well-being. Unity remains the key to the state’s stability and prosperity,” he said when launching the Chinese New Year Carnival 2026 at Dataran Deasoka here on Monday night . The Chief Minister said the successful implementation of SMJ 1.0 gave confidence that Sabah is on the right track, while SMJ 2.0 aligns with the 13th Malaysia Plan for 2026–2030. He said this ongoing development approach is crucial for sustainable economic growth and for addressing future challenges strategically and holistically. Hajiji emphasised that cultural diversity and harmony among multi-ethnic communities form the foundation of Sabah’s social strength, which must be preserved. “Carnivals like this reflect Sabah's uniqueness as a state rich in cultural diversity, where every celebration is shared in the spirit of respect and goodwill,” he said in his speech, which was read by state Rural Development Minister Datuk Rubin Balang. He added that the state government’s inclusive approach aligns with the aspiration to build “a peaceful, united and prosperous Sabah for all.” Hajiji acknowledged the important role of the Chinese community as a strategic partner in the state’s development, especially in the economy, entrepreneurship, education, and cultural heritage preservation. He said the state government will continue to support initiatives and the active involvement of Chinese community organisations as partners in implementing Sabah’s development agenda under the Sabah Maju Jaya framework. Hajiji said close cooperation between the government and community organisations, regardless of race, is vital to ensuring development policies are implemented effectively.MMEA detains fishing boat off Kapar over missing crew documentsStep down as Bersatu president for good of the party, Kiandee urges MuhyiddinSultan Sharafuddin backs Anwar’s stand against pig farming in sensitive areas
