KUALA LUMPUR, March 13 — Tan Sri Siti Norma Yaakob , the former Chief Judge of Malaya and a trailblazer as the first woman to hold the position, passed away this afternoon at KPJ Ampang Puteri Specialist Hospital at the age of 85. Her passing marks the end of an era, leaving behind a legacy of pioneering achievements and unwavering dedication to the Malaysian legal system. Her death, a result of pneumonia, occurred at 1:51 PM.
Siti Norma, born in Seremban, Negeri Sembilan on July 6, 1940, etched her name in history through numerous firsts, including being the first woman appointed as a High Court Judge, a Court of Appeal Judge, and a Federal Court Judge in Malaysia. Beyond her groundbreaking roles in the Malaysian judiciary, she also made international strides, becoming the first female judge from Malaysia to serve on the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC) Court in 2008.
