KUALA LUMPUR: The 219th Police Day celebration on Wednesday fell into a rare hush as a poetry recital laid bare the quiet sacrifices of those in uniform. The performance of “ Sunyi Dalam Seragam ” struck a deep chord among those present, offering a glimpse into the often unseen realities of police officers who serve far from the public eye.
With a calm yet heavy voice, Insp Muhammad Faizul Mustafa of the Special Branch delivered each line with intensity, accompanied by the soft, haunting strains of a violin played by Kpl Alif Azfar Ishak from the Royal Malaysia Police Central Band. Among the lines that lingered in the air were: “If one day you do not return, I will hold on to my promise, whispering your name in my prayers…” As the words echoed through the hall, many in the audience mostly police personnel lowered their gaze, some visibly overcome with emotion, wiping away tears. The poem, co-written by Deputy Director of the Internal Security and Public Order Department Datuk M.V. Srikumar Madhavan Nair and Insp Muhammad Faizul, gave voice to those who serve in silence, where duty often comes before family, and sacrifice is part of the calling. It painted a poignant picture of life behind the badge, of time given up, loved ones left behind, and risks quietly accepted. Yet, as the closing lines suggest, their spirit remains unshaken: “Warriors of the nation may come and go, but they stand firm, carrying the sacred duty for the sovereignty of the land.” Also present at the event were Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail and Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail, along with top police leadership at Dewan Tan Sri Abdul Rahman Hashim, Police Training Centre here.Pengerang forest fire: 120ha controlled, 30ha still burning
