14 Malaysian universities break into QS World Top 50

March 24 (Reuters) - Anduril ⁠and Palantir Technologies are working together to develop ⁠software for U.S. President Donald Trump's Golden Dome ‌antimissile shield initiative, a source familiar with the matter said on Tuesday.

PETALING JAYA: A total of 14 Malaysia n universities now rank in the global Top 50 of the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2026 . UCSI University records the most appearances in this tier with four entries, having broken into the Top 50 for Art and Design as well as Hospitality and Leisure Management.

The university is also Malaysia’s top-performing debutant, placing 24th in Music and becoming the country’s sole entry in this subject. International Islamic University Malaysia and Universiti Malaya have also broken into the Top 50 in the subject table for Theology, Divinity and Religious Studies.Malaysia’s premier university is the most represented institution in the country, with 40 narrow subject entries, five ranked broad faculty areas and 18 of these among the Top 100. The university also climbs from 113th to 93rd in Mathematics, driven by gains in international research collaboration, marking Malaysia’s highest-ever rank in the subject and UM’s only entry in the Top 100. Universiti Teknologi Petronas is now Malaysia’s highest-ranked university and the country’s only Top 10 position, rising from 16th to ninth in Petroleum Engineering. This marks Malaysia’s highest-ever subject ranking and gives the country three Top 50 entries, its most across the tables. UTP is also the most improved university in Asia-Pacific and the second most improved in the world, climbing in nine places and dropping in two among universities with five or more narrow subject entries. Another institution to enter the Top 50 is Universiti Teknologi Malaysia , in Architecture / Built Environment. The university also climbs into the Top 100 in Electrical Engineering, rising from 106th to 77th, and in the broad faculty area of Engineering and Technology, where it rises to 86th from 102nd. Universiti Sains Malaysia breaks into the Top 50 in Pharmacy and Pharmacology, climbing from 87th to 48th and achieving the country’s highest-ever rank in the subject. Meanwhile, Management and Science University is home to the most improved narrow subject entry, climbing from the 201–250 band to rank 112th in Business and Management Studies, driven by a significant gain in the Academic Reputation metric.QS senior vice-president Ben Sowter said the achievements of institutions such as UTP and UCSI University show how targeted investment in specialist disciplines and industry-linked research can translate into global impact. “As Malaysia advances its ambition to become a regional education hub, these results signal growing international recognition of the country’s universities,” he said in a statement today . A total of 353 academic offerings from 27 Malaysian institutions were featured in the rankings, including 299 individual subject entries and 54 broad faculty areas. Of these, 133 have climbed, 71 have dropped, 101 remain stable in their ranks or bands, and 48 join the rankings, giving the country a net improvement rate of 18%.
