Malaysia Urged to Restructure Fuel Subsidies to Aid Local Businesses

The Malaysian government is being urged to overhaul its fuel subsidy structure, specifically by gradually reducing RON95 subsidies. The savings from this reform could then be redirected to more targeted diesel subsidies for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) struggling with high operational costs due to elevated diesel prices. Additionally, a temporary reduction in Sales and Service Tax (SST) for most sectors is proposed to provide immediate relief to consumers and businesses.
