KUALA LUMPUR: A fatal head-on collision caused by a military officer driving against traffic is now being treated as a murder investigation. The military officer who was arrested following the fatal drink-driving incident that killed a social media creator from Bangladesh along the Maju Expressway has been remanded for five days.

Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief Asst Comm Mohd Zamzuri Mohd Isa, when contacted, said the remand application was made on Thursday at the Dang Wangi police headquarters. The suspect has been remanded until April 28 and the application was made under Section 302 of the Penal Code.

On Thursday, the crash killed one and injured two more after the military officer, believed to be under the influence of alcohol, drove against traffic and collided with a car along the expressway. The case was initially investigated under Section 44 of the Road Transport Act 1987 for drink-driving causing death.

Widely known as gaming content creator “Advance Gaming”, the 22-year-old was killed after the vehicle he was travelling in with his wife was hit by another vehicle while they were travelling from Kuala Lumpur International Airport. ACP Mohd Zamzuri, in an earlier statement, said a breathalyser test found the driver had exceeded the permitted alcohol limit.

“Preliminary investigations found that the car driven by the suspect is believed to have entered the opposite lane before colliding head-on with an e-hailing MPV travelling on the left lane,” he said.
