KOTA TINGGI, May 9 — Two foreign nationals were killed in a horrific single-vehicle crash after the Ferrari they were traveling in caught fire along the Johor Bahru-Mersing highway this morning.
Kota Tinggi District Police Chief, Superintendent Yusof bin Haji Othman, confirmed that police received a distress call from the public at approximately 9am, regarding the fatal incident at Kilometer 57.5 of the Jalan Johor Bahru-Mersing route. The victims have been identified as a 34-year-old man, Yeo Tian Wen Leong, who was driving the vehicle, and a 33-year-old woman, Ng Puay Ying who was in the front passenger seat.
According to the police statement, both the driver and the passenger suffered severe bodily injuries and burns in the crash. They were pronounced dead at the scene. The bodies of both victims have been transported to the Forensic Unit of Kota Tinggi Hospital for post-mortem examinations as part of the investigation procedures. The case is currently being investigated under Section 41 of the Road Transport Act 1987, which pertains to causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.
Under this section, those convicted face a prison term of between five and ten years, a fine ranging from RM20,000 to RM50,000, and the disqualification from holding a driver’s license for a minimum period of five years. In light of the tragedy, the Kota Tinggi District Police Headquarters has urged the public to remain vigilant and strictly adhere to traffic laws and regulations at all times to ensure mutual safety on the roads.
