A 44-year-old man faces charges in Singapore after a fire caused by burning charcoal in his living room. Actor Zong Zijie was fined for speeding, while a bus-tanker collision in South Sumatra resulted in 16 fatalities.

A 44-year-old man has been charged in Singapore after allegedly burning a pot of charcoal in his living room, leading to a fire in a public housing flat.

The incident occurred in the early hours of the morning, prompting a swift response from the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF). Firefighters arrived at the scene and managed to contain the blaze, preventing it from spreading to neighboring units. The man, whose identity has not been disclosed, is facing charges under the Fire Services Act for endangering lives and property. Authorities are investigating whether the fire was accidental or intentional.

Meanwhile, in a separate incident, actor Zong Zijie, 29, was fined S$800 for speeding along West Coast Highway. Zong, a Singapore permanent resident and Chinese national, was caught driving at 121 km/h in a 70 km/h zone. He admitted to rushing due to being late for an appointment. Zong, who began his acting career at 13, has appeared in several popular Mediacorp shows and was nominated for the Best Newcomer Award at the Star Awards in 2018.

His recent projects include Your World In Mine, The Sky Is Still Blue, and If Tomorrow Comes. In other news, a tragic bus-tanker collision in South Sumatra has claimed the lives of 16 people. The accident occurred on a busy highway, causing multiple vehicles to be involved in the pile-up. Emergency services are still working to clear the wreckage and assist the injured.

Authorities are urging drivers to exercise caution and adhere to traffic regulations to prevent such incidents
