SINGAPORE, May 18 — A 68-year-old man reportedly died after falling onto the track at Singapore’s Segar LRT station this morning, disrupting Bukit Panjang line services for about four hours.
, Singapore police said they received a call for assistance at the station at about 5.50am, with preliminary investigations showing the man had fallen onto the track in front of an oncoming train at about 5am. The Singapore Civil Defence Force reportedly said it was alerted at about 6.25am, and the man was pronounced dead at the scene by a paramedic.
Train operator SMRT said in a Facebook post that services were disrupted due to a “track intrusion”, before later updating that the man “was seen to have fallen onto the track”.
“Train services between the Petir and Senja stations, in both directions, were temporarily suspended to allow the police safe access to the tracks for investigations,” SMRT said. The Straits Times reported that services between Senja and Petir stations resumed at 10.17am, with free regular bus and bridging bus services subsequently stopped. SMRT Trains president Lam Sheau Kai said the operator’s Care Team had reached out to the man’s family, adding that SMRT would continue to assist police investigations.
