PUTRAJAYA: Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail has ordered immediate upgrades to security shelters used by enforcement agencies at border posts after finding them to be in a dilapidated and unsuitable condition.

He said basic facilities for officers stationed at the borders should not be neglected, especially as they form the frontline of national security. He said the condition was identified during visits to several border locations, including Padang Besar, Bukit Kayu Hitam, Durian Burung and Pangkalan Hulu on Sunday . “Their shelters are very unsatisfactory, they are like burger stalls, or even worse,” he said at the Home Ministry’s monthly assembly here on Monday . Saifuddin said he had instructed Home Ministry secretary-general Datuk Awang Alik Jeman to immediately address the matter, particularly in Pangkalan Hulu. “This issue must be resolved quickly so that the facilities are more suitable and comfortable for personnel on duty,” he said. He added that the upgrades could be carried out immediately as the cost involved was not significant, including improvements to existing structures such as those at the Wang Kelian post.
