Weng District Police Chief Col. Heraman Chekdee said police received a report of the incident at about 10.30 am in Kampung Nam Khao. Heraman said initial investigations found that the incident occurred at around 10 am when a 50-kilogram improvised explosive device planted by the roadside detonated, killing a 35-year-old ranger at the scene.
"Two rangers and two civilians injured in the incident were sent to Sungai Kolok Hospital for treatment,” he said during a visit to the scene on Monday. He added that the traffic route from Sungai Kolok to Weng has been closed to allow the bomb disposal unit to carry out inspections at the scene, and police are actively conducting investigations to track down those responsible for the incident.
