PETALING JAYA: Actor Beto Kusyairi has dismissed claims that he rejected offers to act in television dramas. Instead, he explained that scheduling conflicts forced him to turn down such opportunities.
I actually do not reject episodic drama offers on television as long as the script is good, Beto said. At this point in my career, I am no longer chasing popularity; I prefer to work on projects that bring me satisfaction in terms of the quality of work. He made these remarks during the screening of the serial drama Good Boys Go To Heaven.
Beto, whose real name is Nurkusyairi Zakuan Osman, revealed that he often declines serial drama roles due to scheduling conflicts with filming dates. There are offers, but most of the time, it is about scheduling. It is not about the pay or anything like that, he added.
Meanwhile, the 46-year-old actor expressed his reluctance to portray religious hypocrites on screen, fearing it could tarnish the image of genuine religious figures. Because there are too many stories about religious hypocrites, innocent Ustazs end up getting unfairly associated with them. If someone offers me such a role, I try to avoid it. There are many good religious figures out there, he shared.
Beto also emphasized his preference for meaningful roles that resonate with his personal values. As an actor, I want to contribute positively to society and avoid roles that could spread negativity or misrepresentations. He mentioned that while he enjoys acting, he is selective about the projects he takes on, prioritizing those that align with his principles and artistic vision.
His approach reflects a growing trend among actors who are increasingly conscious of the impact their roles can have on public perception. Beto’s stance highlights the importance of responsible storytelling in the entertainment industry, where narratives can shape societal views on sensitive topics like religion
