Urimai chairman says Rafizi Ramli and Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad took over Bersama due to their disenchantment with certain PKR leaders, including party president Anwar Ibrahim.
PETALING JAYA: Former DAP assemblyman P Ramasamy today said that Parti Bersama Malaysia, which two former PKR leaders recently took over, comes off as a personality-driven party.
He said Rafizi Ramli and Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad took over Bersama due to their disenchantment with certain PKR leaders, including president Anwar Ibrahim and vice-president R Ramanan. Ramasamy said Rafizi appeared to blame Anwar and the prime minister’s close political associates for Malaysia’s lack of reforms.
“However, he has spared DAP leaders from blame for not pushing for the much-needed reforms,” the Urimai chairman said in a Facebook post, adding that Rafizi had even described the party’s secretary-general, Loke Siew Fook, as a competent person. “Surely, Rafizi cannot blame Anwar alone for the lack of reforms as Pakatan Harapan as a whole should be held responsible for not pushing for the much-needed reforms.
” On Sunday, Rafizi and Nik Nazmi announced that they would be taking over Bersama, which was registered in 2016, as they seek to chart a new political direction for themselves and their supporters. Rafizi and Nik Nazmi resigned as economy minister and natural resources and environmental sustainability minister, respectively, in May 2025. This was after the party elections in which Rafizi lost the deputy president’s post to Nurul Izzah Anwar, and Nik Nazmi failed to retain his vice-presidency.
Rafizi’s ties with the PKR leadership subsequently turned frosty, and he has been publicly critical of the government and the party since. Ramasamy said it was “obvious” that Bersama was not an ideologically-driven party.
“I am not sure whether a new political party that is not driven by ideology is best equipped to bring about fundamental changes to the country,” he added. He also said that Bersama should spell out in detail what reforms are needed and where PKR has failed.
