In another case, a 24-year-old woman was fined RM1,400 or one month’s jail for gambling in a public place.

Pijah Kilah pleaded guilty before Magistrate Marilyn Kelvin to engaging in gambling activities at an open area near a Petronas station in Donggongon town, Penampang, at 4.45pm on Nov 1, 2025. The charge under Section 7 of the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953 provides a fine of up to RM5,000 or imprisonment of up to six months or both, upon conviction.

The law also provides for any gambling equipment or items seized during the offence to be forfeited to the Government. The prosecution informed the court that a police team conducted an “Op Dadu” operation at the location and found Pijah involved in online top-up gambling activities. She was detained together with several seized items before being brought to the Penampang police headquarters for further action. Pijah appealed for a lighter sentence, saying she is the eldest among seven siblings.

The prosecution applied for the forfeiture of RM50 seized during the arrest, which was allowed by the court as Government revenue. Deputy Public Prosecutor Arfa Anchal Khan and Inspector Yusdi Basri prosecuted.
