Nizamuddin Hamid confirms being mentioned in a police report alleging the plot's existence but denies any discussion of such moves.
Lawyer Nizamuddin Hamid with his client Naimah Khalid , the widow of late former finance minister Daim Zainuddin. KUALA LUMPUR: A lawyer acting for former finance minister Daim Zainuddin’s widow Naimah Khalid has rubbished claims that she is attempting to topple the government, describing it as 'the mother of all lies'.
Nizamuddin Hamid confirmed that he was one of two lawyers named in a police report as attending a meeting with Naimah where the plot was purportedly discussed. He said the other lawyer was his law firm partner, Amir Zharif Abdullah. However, he said there were no discussions or orders from Naimah concerning any plot to topple the government or undermine the nation's democracy. 'That is the mother of all lies. Daim's family has the right to defend itself in court and in the media from such allegations, whether from the government or the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission . 'The press statement issued by her expresses her reaction clearly – the allegations are outrageous,' he told reporters at the court complex here today. Last week, Bukit Aman said it was investigating claims of an attempt by unnamed individuals to overthrow the government and threaten national stability, based on a police report. The police report alleged that members of a prominent family engaged a UK firm to exert pressure on MACC and Anwar with the help of international media. The allegations followed news reports by Bloomberg claiming that MACC chief commissioner Azam Baki held 17.7 million shares in a financial services company and had not publicly declared his assets. In a separate article, Bloomberg claimed that a network of businessmen and MACC officers used raids and investigations to pressure executives into selling shares in targeted companies. MACC has denied the claim. On Feb 27, Naimah denied claims that she was involved in an attempt to destabilise the government, calling them 'false and preposterous'.
