‘Wow’: AFL star’s unseen act of sportsmanship after brutal bump goes viral
Clayton Oliver and Patrick Cripps were battling for an edge before the opening bounce of the game. Picture: Channel 7But Oliver had an opportunity to tip the scales back in his favour with his side leading by three points late in the fourth quarter.
There was a stoppage inside the Demons’ forward 50 and as Oliver and Cripps took their positions around the ruckmen for the boundary throw-in, the Demons onballer noticed blood trickling from Cripps’ nose. Cripps had been battling to stem the flow since being collected by Kysaiah Pickett early in the second quarter. He was forced to leave the field momentarily but returned to resume hostilities.
But this was an opportunity for Oliver to rub him out again – at the most crucial moment in both team’s season. All he had to do was point the blood out to the field umpire and Cripps likely would have been forced from the field.Instead of ratting on his opponent, he let him know the blood was back so Cripps could quickly wipe it off before it was seen.Source: Channel 7“Props to Clayton Oliver,” wrote a Carlton fan on Twitter. “Most players would have alerted the umpire to the blood coming from Cripps’ nose. He tells Cripps to wipe it. And they go at it again.”“Wow, wasn’t expecting to see that.
