AWAN Convention emphasizes women's capabilities and urges government action for greater female representation in leadership.

Klang: The public is urged to shed the perception of women in leadership as passengers, as they are capable of leading and reflecting a progressive, resilient, and strong society. Datuk Aiman Athirah Sabu, the Head of Angkatan Wanita Amanah Negara ( AWAN ) stated that the ability of women can be seen in the spirit and courage of women in Gaza, Palestine who have transformed their roles from mothers and caregivers to warriors.

'Women's leadership is not a random occurrence or simply filling a space. We women are designed to lead,' she said during her speech at the AWAN 2024 Convention today. At the convention, 551 delegates from across the country gathered to discuss and approve resolutions. The Deputy Minister of Housing and Local Government added that the government needs to present a clear plan and a transparent mechanism to implement the minimum 30% quota at the political decision-making level. 'Even the 30% figure is no longer relevant and should be higher compared to the number of women in higher education and other professions.' The government cannot simply leave this important matter to political parties alone, but we demand laws and regulations, as well as incentives towards this goal. Logically, today's female graduates at the tertiary level are numerous enough to be utilized. They are national assets, including in the field of political leadership. For more than 30 years, we have been using the same methods but ironically yearning for different results,' she emphasized. Aiman Athirah, who is also the Member of Parliament for Sepang, further stated that in Amanah, 26% of the candidates in the last election were women and called for the party leadership to increase this number
