The sun shone bright amid clear skies over the San Francisco Bay Area on Friday afternoon, but cold, wet weather is on the way this weekend.
is expected to turn chillier over the weekend with a cold front poised to sweep the region and drag frigid air into the area, according to the National Weather Service. Forecasters predict that the Bay Area will see the coldest temperatures of the year so far Sunday night into Monday morning and Monday night into Tuesday morning.
Afternoon highs on Saturday are expected to be several degrees colder than they were on Friday, and temperatures will drop even more on Sunday as a weak cold front moves across the region. “Overall, it looks like, across the Bay Area, a light sprinkling of rain is likely, but really nothing significant,” weather service meteorologist Alexis Clouser told SFGATE on the phone. “It looks like the Santa Cruz Mountains and the Santa Lucia Mountains could see the most rain. The first bands of rain come in around 6 a.m. or 7 a.m. on Sunday, and then it looks like lingering rain through the day with the system exiting by the evening.
Sunday night into Monday morning and Monday night into Tuesday morning will bring widespread 30s, and valleys are likely to approach freezing, with the coldest locations dropping into the upper 20s.
