Prime Minister Scott Morrison has promised privileges for vaccinated people as part of the nation’s four-phase pathway out of COVID-19, but this won’t kick in until vaccination rates are much higher | niltiac

More than half a million people in NSW are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 but they are unlikely to be given greater freedom of movement in Sydney’s Delta outbreak.

Responding to a listener from Fairfield, who suggested it could be an incentive to get vaccinated if fully vaccinated people in the hotspot areas were allowed to work in other parts of Sydney, Ms Berejiklian said this would not be fair given there were people who wanted the vaccine but did not have it yet.“We can look at those policies a bit further down the track but at the moment we haven’t had the chance to offer the vaccine to everybody,” Ms Berejiklian said.

On Friday Mr Morrison outlined his pathway out of the pandemic. He said Phase B, when 70 per cent of the population is vaccinated, would include easing restrictions on vaccinated residents. Phase C, when 80 per cent of the population is vaccinated, would mean highly targeted lockdowns only, with vaccinated residents exempt from all domestic restrictions and allowed to travel abroad.

However, Health Minister Brad Hazzard has also dismissed the idea of vaccine privileges because it would undermine the government’s public health messaging.
