What exactly is Bungie planning to do with Destiny now going forward?
’s Eververse store and the world’s first raid pursuit for Season of Opulence, with more information about the next Annual Pass release coming next week, apparently. But they closed with a line that attracted a lot of fans’ attention:
“Right now, our focus is on Opulence. But after the Season has launched and Raid belts have been awarded, we’ll be looking deeper into the future, and sharing with you more about a new era for Bungie and Destiny 2.” Taken literally, the “new era” here is Bungie operating without Activision. Season of Opulence was the last bit of content made while still under the Activision deal and working with Activision partners. But fans have wanted to know…what exactly does the split mean for the future of the series? What is Bungie’s vision for thefranchise without Activision? What can they do now they couldn’t before? But Bungie has yet to say one word about that.
What’s interesting here is that Bungie says “Destiny 2” and not “Destiny,” implying that we’re talking about specific, Year 3 content here. If we were sticking to the old Activision schedule of releases we would have a Rise of Iron type expansion launching this fall, followed bya year later. But what’s happening now instead? There have been rumblings that Bungie is planning another Annual Pass, this time perhaps with four segments instead of three, but none of that is confirmed.
