The Coalition has accused Anthony Albanese of lecturing and emotional blackmail over the Indigenous Voice proposal, as the politics of the referendum become increasingly charged.
, after the prime minister and Opposition Leader Peter Dutton went head to head in parliament on the issue for the first time.
“This is not the government’s idea,” Mr Albanese said. “This is an idea that has come from the bottom up. “There is no sense saying this is somebody else’s process and we have just come along as an observer in relation to it. The fact is that people want detail.”Indigenous Australians Minister Linda Burney confirmed in question time on Thursday the Voice would not have a permanent presence in national cabinet.for the official Yes and No campaigns in the lead-up to the vote, a cost of an extra $40 million.He cited public funding in the republic referendum campaign.
Some Liberals have split with Mr Dutton on the calls for taxpayer funds to go to the campaigns, a day afterOpposition foreign affairs spokesman Simon Birmingham warned against taxpayers’ cash being used to fund Yes and No campaigns.
