The Valenzuela City and Caloocan City local governments announced on Thursday, March 2, that they will deploy “Libreng Sakay” trucks to assist commuters in their cities during the expected week-long transport strike starting Monday, March 6.
Valenzuela City Mayor Weslie “Wes” Gatchalian held a meeting with several Jeepney Operators and Drivers Association registered in the city on Wednesday, March 1, regarding the transport strike which is intended to oppose the scheduled phaseout of traditional jeepneys under the national government’s Public Utility Modernization Program.
The Caloocan City government also said it is preparing shuttles that will provide free rides to commuters during the transport strike. “Nais ko pong ipaalam sa publiko, sa aking mga mahal na kababayan na dito po sa Valenzuela City, maayos at nagkakaisa po ang inyong lokal na pamahalaan, ang mga iilang jeepney operators at drivers association natin.
