Uzbekistan President Shavkat Mirziyoyev began his two-day official visit to Malaysia with an official welcome ceremony at Perdana Putra. He will meet with Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim to discuss strengthening bilateral ties, particularly in trade, investment, and cultural exchange.
Uzbekistan President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, currently on a two-day official visit to Malaysia, received an official welcome at Perdana Putra on Wednesday (February 5th). Mirziyoyev, who arrived on Tuesday for his first trip to Malaysia since taking office in December 2016, was greeted by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim upon his arrival at 10 am.
President Mirziyoyev then inspected a guard of honor mounted by three officers and 102 members of the First Battalion of the Royal Ranger Regiment (Ceremonial). Among those present were Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan, Cabinet members, foreign diplomats, and senior government officials.Scheduled discussions between the two leaders will center around reviewing the progress of Malaysia-Uzbekistan bilateral relations, particularly in trade and investment, the halal industry, education, connectivity, and tourism. This follows Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim's official visit to Uzbekistan in May 2024. The leaders will also engage in exchanging views on regional and international issues of mutual interest, including Malaysia's ASEAN chairmanship in 2025. Later in the day, both leaders will proceed to Kompleks Seri Perdana to witness the signing of three memoranda of understanding (MoUs) on cooperation in health, forensic sciences, and culture. Additionally, exchanges of notes will take place in higher education, diplomatic training, halal certification, and customs.In 2024, Malaysia's total trade with Uzbekistan amounted to RM369.8 million (US$80.9 million), a slight decrease of 13.2% compared to the RM426.1 million (US$94 million) recorded in 2023. The trade balance favors Malaysia at RM360.3 million (US$78.9 million).
