KUALA LUMPUR: Umno says it is ready to back Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad if a vote of no-confidence is put forward against him in Parliament.
Talk of a no-confidence vote was triggered by a claim by PAS that it had pledged to support the prime minister in the event of betrayal by Pakatan Harapan politicians. However, the claim was dismissed by PH leaders, including Defence Minister Mohamad Sabu and PKR president Anwar Ibrahim. “I need the support of up to 50% of the elected representatives and PH has more than half the seats. So I don’t need PAS’ support,” he had said.
