Charity dinner with what’s expected to be the largest gathering of former Bruin QBs will benefit UCLA Mattel Children’s Hospital
A charity event enabling UCLA football fans to spend an evening at a dinner table with a former Bruin quarterback will be held Saturday, April 15, at the on-campus Meyer and Renee Luskin Conference Center.There will be a 5 p.m. cocktail hour, followed by a 6 p.m. dinner and a special quarterback panel program featuring Troy Aikman and Gary Beban. Event organizer Pat Cowan expects 22 former quarterbacks will be in attendance. Broadcaster Josh Lewin will serve as the emcee.http://giving.ucla.
There were 16 former UCLA quarterbacks there that day, including Cowan, who in 2006 led UCLA to a shocking 13-9 upset over No. 2-ranked USC. Beban, the 1967 Heisman Trophy winner, flew down from his home in Bellingham, Wash., located north of Seattle, and flew back all in the same day. Tom Ramsey, the Bruins’ quarterback from 1979-82, came from his home in Denver. Drew Olson and John Barnes, who went from fourth stringer to hero of a 38-37 victory over USC in 1992 , came down together from the Bay Area. Cade McNown was there, and so were Matt Stevens , John Sciarra and Dennis Dummit , plus others.
