The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability (NRES) in Malaysia has issued a directive to halt mining activities by Aqua Orion Sdn Bhd and Gua Musang Mining Sdn Bhd (Redstar Capital Sdn Bhd) in Gua Musang, Kelantan, due to concerns about pollution in Sungai Kelaik. The Department of Environment (DOE) conducted an investigation under the Environmental Quality Act 1974, finding Aqua Orion operating without the necessary approval and Redstar Capital's premises inactive.

“The enforcement will be intensified under Act 127 if the project operators fail to meet the conditions of the Environmental Impact Assessment approval. He also announced that the DOE would request the Kelantan State Land and Mines Office to withhold the renewal of Aqua Orion’s mining licence until the company submits an approved EIA report for evaluation.
