Mining Companies Ordered to Halt Work Over Pollution Concerns

Two mining companies in Malaysia have been ordered to stop their operations due to fears they are polluting Sungai Kelaik in Gua Musang, Kelantan. The directive was issued by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability through the Department of Environment (DOE) and given to Syarikat Perlombongan Gua Musang Sdn. Bhd. (Redstar Capital Sdn. Bhd.) and Syarikat Aqua Orian Sdn. Bhd. The decision was made based on an investigation by the DOE regarding the companies' compliance with the Environmental Quality Act 1974.

PETALING JAYA: Dua syarikat perlombongan diarahkan menghentikan kerja-kerja melombong kerana dibimbangi menjadi punca pencemaran Sungai Kelaik, Gua Musang, Kelantan .

Beliau berkata, keputusan itu dibuat berdasarkan siasatan yang dijalankan JAS berkaitan pematuhan kedua-dua syarikat terhadap Akta Kualiti Alam Sekeliling 1974 . “Syarikat Perlombongan Gua Musang Sdn. Bhd. , hasil siasatan mendapati premis tidak beroperasi di mana tiada sebarang kerja-kerja mengorek bijih besi atau memproses bijih besi dijalankan.

Beliau berkata, JAS juga akan mengemukakan surat kepada Pejabat Tanah dan Galian Kelantan supaya menangguhkan kelulusan pembaharuan lesen melombong kepada pihak Syarikat Aqua Orion Sdn. Bhd. sehingga Laporan EIA dikemukakan untuk penilaian dan kelulusan.
