Two Indonesian men faced charges in a Malaysian court for possessing firearms in Perai waters. The court proceedings were adjourned due to one of the accused not understanding the charges read in Malay. The case will be continued on February 12th with an interpreter present.
Two Indonesian men appeared in the Butterworth Sessions Court today facing charges of possessing firearms in Perai waters last month. However, no plea was recorded as one of them did not understand the charges read in Malay before Judge Nor Azah Kasran. The court then set February 12th for the charges to be read again with the presence of an interpreter. Earlier, both accused, who were related, arrived at the court escorted by police officers at 8:30 am.
On January 31st, media reported that the Penang Police confirmed the dismantling of a firearms smuggling operation following the arrest of four men in a boat in Perai waters suspected of having links to an organized crime group. Various weapons were also found, including five pistols, an M4 rifle, and 801 bullets. State Police Chief, Datuk Hamzah Ahmad, said this was based on a detailed investigation conducted against all four men, including two who were Indonesian nationals.-UTUSA
