The Selangor police are searching for two Indonesian men who allegedly transported three illegal immigrants who were shot during an attempt to cross from Malaysian waters to Indonesia. The police are also seeking several other individuals who may have been on the boat during the incident.

The Selangor police are currently searching for two Indonesian men suspected of transporting three illegal immigrants who sustained injuries from a shooting off the coast of Tanjung Rhu, Banting, on January 24th. According to Selangor police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan, they are also pursuing several other individuals believed to have been on the boat during the incident.

'We believe besides the five - one (suspect) who died and four others (injured) in hospital - there are others in the boat due to its size and based on conversations with witnesses,' Khan stated in a press conference at the Selangor contingent police headquarters today. He added that the suspects were likely attempting to illegally cross from Malaysian waters to Indonesia and that all involved are believed to be engaged in human trafficking activities. They reportedly lacked any valid travel documents. The police have nearly concluded their investigation, having recorded statements from 14 Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) personnel and two of the four injured suspects. Khan stated that the case would be submitted to the deputy public prosecutor shortly. Regarding the MMEA's use of firearms during the incident, Hussein explained that the agency adheres to its own standard operating procedures for deploying force in situations where personnel are threatened. A Selangor MMEA patrol boat encountered the suspect's vessel around 3 am on January 23rd, resulting in a collision that ultimately led to the shooting and injuries sustained by the suspects.Antara News subsequently reported that Indonesia has called on Malaysia to take action against the MMEA personnel involved if their actions are found to have constituted excessive violence during the shooting. Indonesian Deputy Minister for Migrant Worker Protection, Christina Aryani, stated that the Malaysian government has been requested to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident
