Two children who were injured in a fatal highway accident in Malaysia have been discharged from the hospital. The children, Nur Sofea Humaira Khairul Ikhwan, 4, and Muhammad Uwais Al-QarniKhairul Ikhwan, 7, were passengers in a car that was involved in a five-vehicle crash on December 23.
Two children from the couple Khairul Ikhwan Mazupi, 32, and Fadzlenna Ramli, 32, who died in a five-vehicle accident on Kilometer 204 Lebuhraya Utara Selatan (PLUS) northbound near Simpang Ampat here, on Monday, were allowed to leave Hospital Melaka this evening.
Datuk Ngwe Hee Sem, Chairman of the Melaka Health, Human Resources and Unity Committee, said Nur Sofea Humaira Khairul Ikhwan, 4, and Muhammad Uwais Al-QarniKhairul Ikhwan, 7, will be sent to their grandfather's house in Bangi, Selangor by ambulance. According to him, Nur Sofea Humaira underwent surgery on her left thigh last Wednesday and her condition is reported to be improving. He said Muhammad Uwais Al-Qarni, who also underwent surgery to insert a rod into his fractured right thigh, is also showing good progress, allowing them to be discharged from Hospital Melaka. Another victim of the accident, the Nissan lorry driver, Mohamad Syafiq Mohd. Zuki, aged 27, who was receiving treatment at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Hospital Melaka, has regained consciousness since yesterday and can speak. However, he is still dependent on a ventilator for breathing assistance due to lung injuries. Hee Sem said when contacted today, the driver will undergo a second surgery on his injured right thigh in the first week of January.
