Lycoming County District Attorney Ryan Gardner rules the shooting of Brian Taylor was justified.
WILLIAMSPORT – The Lycoming County district attorney has confirmed his preliminary finding that state troopers were justified in killing a man who fired on them after he fatally shot three individuals.but waited until he obtained reports from state police about the Nov. 5 shooting rampage in rural northeastern Lycoming County before making his final determination.
“Discharging his firearm at troopers following their arrival on scene demonstrates a total disregard for criminal consequences. “Although I am certain that not one trooper responding to this call envisioned the episode resulting in the loss of life, it is difficult to fathom an alternative outcome under these circumstances,” Gardner wrote.
At 9:33 a.m. state police at Bloomsburg received a telephone call from a female that a male pointed a rifle and shot twice at her and her baby as she was driving near the intersection of Routes 118 and 239. As the troopers arrived at the Routes 239/118 intersection they were advised the male was shooting at a residence in the 4000 block of Route 239.
An SUV traveling southeast on Route 239 stopped next to the UTV and shots were fired. It was determined no trooper had discharged a weapon. The male then rolled from behind the UTV toward the wood line and continued to move around despite the verbal commands to stop moving.
