A driver has died while his passenger sustained minor injuries after the car they were in skidded off the road and caught on fire at KM14.9 of the New Pantai
Expressway around 8 am today .
The Acting Director of the Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Department, Rozihan Anwar Mamat, stated that the Kuala Lumpur Operations Center received a call about the incident at 8:28 am. A team of 9 officers from the Seputeh Fire and Rescue Station, along with a Fire Rescue Tender and Emergency Medical Response Services unit, was dispatched to the scene.
“A Toyota Vios was found to be on fire, believed to have caught fire due to the impact of the road accident, which caused the car to burn completely,” Rozihan said in a statement. He mentioned that the injured passenger was taken to the University Malaya Medical Center, while the driver’s body was handed over to the police. It was reported that both men were rescued by bystanders before the car was engulfed in flames.Meanwhile, a spokesperson from the Malaysian Highway Authority stated when contacted by Bernama that the accident also caused a traffic jam of over 300 meters on the highway.
