The Toyota GR Yaris gets a facelift with an 8-speed automatic transmission, increased power and torque, and a new driver-oriented cockpit.
The Toyota GR Yaris facelift was first revealed at the 2024 Kuala Lumpur International Mobility Show (KLIMS) last month and is now officially launched in Malaysia at the Toyota Gazoo Racing Season 7 finale, happening today at the Petronas Sepang International Circuit. The car on display at SIC today is the same red one seen at KLIMS. This rally-bred hatchback, first surfacing at TAS, boasts a number of key updates.
The most notable changes are the addition of an 8AT gearbox, increased power and torque, and a new driver-angled cockpit with a revised driving position. Now available with an eight-speed automatic transmission called the Gazoo Racing Direct Automatic Transmission, the GR Yaris offers improved speed and reliability for a wider range of drivers. Although the auto GR Yaris will be introduced by UMW Toyota Motor in the future, allocations are currently limited. The GR Yaris's engine, the G16E-GTS, now produces 300 PS and 400 Nm, a significant increase of 39 PS and 40 Nm compared to the European-spec engine found in the pre-facelift import by UMWT. To handle the increased power and the inclusion of the automatic gearbox, an ATF cooler is now standard on auto cars, along with a sub-radiator, cool air intake, and intercooler spray as part of a factory-installed Cooling Package option.Further enhancements include the introduction of Drive Mode Select, which adjusts the electronic power steering, air conditioning, and powertrain based on Sport, Normal, or Eco mode. Sport mode also features a unique gauge cluster design. The 4WD mode selection function remains unchanged. The changes extend to the body shell itself
