Tougher bail laws have passed the Northern Territory parliament following the fatal stabbing of a bottle shop worker in Darwin 10 days ago, but the reforms will not apply to offences involving improvised weapons such as rocks and bottles.

The bail changes will apply to 22 different types of "controlled weapons", including crossbows, spearguns, daggers, swords, cattle prods and laser pointers. "If you're a violent offender out there and you want to threaten or attack someone with a golf club, you will get a presumption in favour of bail," she said.
