Brisbane is the next major Australian population centre in the firing line of the wet weather, with the risk of gusty storms and flash flooding spiking in the early hours of Thursday morning, writes Sky News Australia Meteorologist Alison Osborne.
The cause of the grey skies and lack of vitamin D comes all the way from the Indian Ocean, where a tropical low has been directing moisture-laden air towards the southeast.
Meanwhile, a series of troughs and fronts moving across Australia’s south-eastern states has caused heavy rain, by providing the conditions necessary to generate frequent thunderstorms. A wet weather trough is set to bring heavy rainfall to south-east Queensland from Wednesday afternoon, with the risk spiking in the early hours of Thursday.
