“All the credit goes to those guys,” Tomball Memorial coach Matt Bailey said. “Our kids are tough, they believe, they play together, they play hard on defense and we pride ourselves on ‘We’re going to get stops, and then we’re going to go down and do our thing with scoring.’ We got several guys that can score for us, we’re always balanced.
The Wildcat defense held Cypress Ranch scoreless in the second quarter until Jason Cottonham's three-point play cut the deficit to single digits with 3:32 left. Isaac Saavedra’s three-pointer made it a four-point game but Peyton Kirkland answered with a three of his own to make it 25-18 at halftime.
Tomball Memorial was ranked statewide for the first time after defeating College Park 62-51 to win the gold bracket championship of the Grand Oaks Tournament.
