Three friends were charged in court for the assault of a man with an iron bar and a snooker cue at a Melaka entertainment center. The accused pleaded not guilty to the charges and were released on bail.
Three friends were charged at the Sessions Court in Melaka today for the alleged assault of a man using an iron bar and a snooker cue at a entertainment center in Melaka Raya on December 6th. The accused, Muhammad Daniel Ramlie Abdullah, 24; Hirman Mohtar, 40, and Norashikin Hasim, 48, pleaded not guilty to the charges read out by the court interpreter before Judge Rohatul Akmar Abdullah.
According to the charge sheet, all three accused, along with three others still at large, had conspired to inflict serious injury on a 31-year-old man using an iron bar and a snooker cue, which, if used as a weapon, could cause death. The offense allegedly occurred around 3 am at an entertainment center on Jalan Merdeka, Melaka Raya in the Melaka Tengah district on December 6th, 2024. Under Section 326 of the Penal Code, the accused could be sentenced to up to 20 years imprisonment and fined, or caned. Deputy Public Prosecutor Azfar Mahmud suggested bail of RM20,000 each because the offense was serious. Lawyer S. Daniel appealed for a lower bail amount citing his clients' lack of steady income. The court allowed all three accused to be released on bail of RM10,000 each and set February 3rd for a case mention and submission of documents. Meanwhile, in a separate proceeding at the Magistrate Court, all three accused pleaded not guilty to two charges under Section 324 of the Penal Code for intentionally causing injury to a man and a woman aged 36 and 22 respectively using similar weapons on the same date, time and location. For these offenses, all three accused face a maximum sentence of 10 years imprisonment, a fine, or caning, or any two of these punishments, if found guilty. Magistrate Khairunnisak Hassni ordered each accused to be released on bail of RM4,000 each
