A babysitter in Johor Baru, Malaysia, has been charged with abusing a three-month-old baby boy.
A 48-year-old woman, Monsinah Sapari, who works as a babysitter, was charged at the Sessions Court in Johor Baru for abusing a three-month-old baby boy six months ago. Monsinah pleaded not guilty to the charge. According to the charge sheet, she mistreated the baby in a way that caused physical injury, committing the offense at a teachers' quarters in Kampung Melayu Kangkar Pulai between 7:30 a.m. and 12:44 p.m. on July 17.
She faces a charge under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001, which carries a sentence of up to 20 years imprisonment, a fine not exceeding RM50,000, or both upon conviction. Judge Ahmad Kamal Arifin Ismail set January 15, 2025, for the case mention and granted bail at RM5,000 with one surety. He also ordered Monsinah to surrender her passport to the court and report to the Kangkar Pulai police station once a month until the case is settled
