Montgomery, Alabama

Three of the six suspects accused of killing 4 people and injuring 32 others in the Dadeville Mass Shooting on April 15 were back in court Thursday. 20 year old Wilson Lamar Hill, Jr., 19 year old Willie George Brown, Jr., and a third defendant appeared in front of a judge to determine whether they will be tried as youthful offenders or as adults.

According to Alabama law, suspects under 21 who are charged with a crime can apply for youthful offender status to prevent them from receiving the same sentencing as adults. It was a closed hearing, so neither the media nor the public were allowed in the courtroom. District Attorney Mike Segrest says only relatives of the defendants, victims, and victims’ families were present. The judge is expected to make a decision soon about whether the three defendants will be tried as adults.
