Pop quiz: what is the most exported automobile from South Korea? If you’re thinking something from Hyundai or Kia, well, you’re wrong. According to the Korea Automobile Manufacturers Association or KAMA, the most exported vehicle produced there is a Chevrolet.
Based on KAMA’s report, the Trailblazer and Trax ranked first and fifth respectively in global exports among finished vehicles from Korea. In a month, the Trailblazer, along with its sibling model, the Buick Encore GX, sold around 25,500 units—recording the highest export volume among all domestic automobiles. So far, it has ranked first in automobile exports for three consecutive months showcasing its strong worldwide demand.
In addition, more than 15,000 units of the Trax were exported in a month. With cumulative exports of more than 40,000 units, the Trax has helped GM’s Korean Operations to record a sales growth of over 2.5 times.. With its roomy interior, newly added functions, and modern and stylish design, the Trax is enjoying tremendous popularity in the domestic and overseas markets.. Launching on July 4, both are powered by a 1.2-liter 3-cylinder turbocharged engine making 139 horsepower and 220 Nm.
With automobiles recently becoming the No. 1 export item in Korea, GM aims to increase its annual production capacity to 500,000 units centered on the Chevrolet Trailblazer and Trax. The automaker plans to maximize the production of the two models at their “zero-defect manufacturing facility” and export them in large quantities.
