Thailand's Deputy Prime Minister expressed interest in collaborating with Malaysia on digital governance to improve citizens' quality of life. The meeting took place during the 5th ASEAN Digital Ministers' Meeting in Bangkok.
The Thai government has expressed strong interest in collaborating with Malaysia on digital governance initiatives to elevate the quality of life for its citizens. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Digital Economy and Society of Thailand, Prasert Jantararuangtong, emphasized Thailand's eagerness to work with fellow ASEAN member states to improve the overall standard of living in the region.
Prasert Jantararuangtong lauded Malaysia's success in implementing digital government programs, particularly in areas such as government digitalization and cloud technology. He stated, during a bilateral meeting with Malaysia's Minister of Communications and Digital, Gobind Singh Deo, that Thailand seeks to learn from Malaysia's expertise in these sectors to enhance the well-being of Thai citizens. The meeting took place on the sidelines of the 5th ASEAN Digital Ministers' Meeting (ADGMIN) held in Bangkok on Thursday. Prasert also recognized Malaysia's advancements in various digital domains, including smart city projects, cybersecurity, gaming and animation, as well as its thriving startup ecosystem. He highlighted the significance of ADGMIN as a platform for Thailand to showcase its digital capabilities and leadership within ASEAN. Prasert stressed that developing robust digital infrastructure and fostering innovation are crucial for strengthening Thailand's competitiveness in the global landscape. He further outlined Thailand's objectives for the meeting, emphasizing the importance of fostering digital collaboration with ASEAN member states and dialogue partners, facilitating knowledge and technology exchange, promoting the digital economy, and enhancing digital skills among Thais. He underscored the critical need to reinforce cybersecurity measures and safeguard personal data, as these are fundamental for building investor confidence and supporting sustainable economic growth. Earlier, Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra inaugurated the 5th ASEAN Digital Ministers' Meeting, which convened in Bangkok on Thursday. The event drew participants from the 10 ASEAN member states, key dialogue partners such as China, Japan, South Korea, the United States, India, the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), and representatives from Timor-Leste, with over 300 attendees in total
