A Thai woman was fined RM9,000 in Kangar, Malaysia, for possessing subsidized cooking oil without a license. In another case, a lorry driver was fined for possessing fuel without a license.
A Thai woman was fined RM9,000 by the Sessions Court in Kangar, Malaysia, after pleading guilty to possessing 34kg of subsidized packet cooking oil without a license. Judge Sharifah Norazlita Syed Salim Idid imposed the fine, with a default sentence of five months in jail, on Salmee Changwang, 49, an e-hailing driver.
She was charged with possessing the controlled item, comprising 34 packets of 1kg subsidized cooking oil in a pickup truck without a permit on Jalan Kaki Bukit-Wang Kelian on December 19 last year. The offense violated Regulation 3(1) of the Supply Control Regulations 1974, which states that no person can deal in or manufacture any scheduled article by wholesale or retail without a license issued by the Controller of Supplies under Regulation 4. In a separate case, lorry driver Haw Boon Guey, 58, pleaded guilty to possessing 400 liters of petrol and diesel mixture without a license in June last year. Haw was charged with committing the offense at a roadside on Jalan Kaki Bukit near a petrol station in Beseri at 10.30am on June 21 last year. Both cases were prosecuted by S. Mugunthan, the prosecuting officer from the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry in Perlis.
