TCN denies grid collapse, explains tripping of power lines and impact on electricity supply.

The Transmission Company of Nigeria ( TCN ) has addressed the reported grid collapse on Saturday, January 11, 2025. In a statement, TCN stated that the nation's grid did not collapse. The incident involved the tripping of the Osogbo-Ihovbor line, followed by the tripping of the Benin-Omotosho line, which affected bulk power supply to the Lagos axis. TCN emphasized that total generation on the grid before the tripping was 4,335.63MW, and dropped to 2,573.23MW afterward.

This indicates the grid did not collapse. The tripping affected several power plants, but all have been restored except for the Benin Omotosho 330kV line, which is currently under restoration. TCN highlighted its ongoing efforts to develop a robust transmission grid and stressed the importance of accurate information dissemination
