A 63-year-old taxi driver in Johor Baru is left facing a mountain of debt after his son and family disappeared, leaving him to deal with the consequences of his son's borrowings from loan sharks.

A 63-year-old taxi driver, Khoo, returned home after ten months of hospitalization for intestinal surgery, only to find his son had vanished, leaving behind a mountain of debt. Khoo's son, his wife, and their two children disappeared, leaving behind no trace except for a note informing Khoo that the children had been entrusted to a relative. Two men soon arrived at Khoo's house, claiming that his son had failed to repay a debt owed to their boss.

This revelation led Khoo to understand the reason behind his family's abrupt departure. He subsequently learned that his son's car and motorcycle had been seized by loan sharks. Over the following two months, Khoo endured relentless visits from individuals demanding repayment of his son's debts, threatening harm to him and his property if he refused. The total amount owed to various loan sharks is estimated to be RM200,000. Khoo, now living alone, expresses fear of leaving his house due to the constant threats. His wife, who resides and works in Singapore, is also apprehensive about returning home. After enduring this ordeal for two months, Khoo finally filed a police report on December 31, 2024, after being encouraged by friends

He presented a copy of the Royal Pardon Board's order received by the ministry on February 2, 2024, following a meeting on January 29, 2024, chaired by the King. The order only addressed the reduction of imprisonment and fines, not home detention. The minister addressed the court's ruling acknowledging the validity of an addendum titah (royal decree) from Istana Pahang regarding Najib's home detention sentence, which had circulated widely among political leaders and participants of solidarity gatherings during the trial. Saifuddin Nasution emphasized that there was no issue of the ministry intentionally concealing the addendum, stating that they did not receive nor could they implement any orders for home detention.
