Australia's MRH90 Taipan helicopter fleet have been retired early just months after four crew members died in a horror crash during a military exercise in the Whitsundays.
Captain Daniel Lyon, Lieutenant Maxwell Nugent, Corporal Alexander Naggs and Warrant Officer Joseph Laycock, died after their Taipan downed near Hamilton Island during Exercise Talisman Sabre in July. reliability and serviceability, including incidents involving engine failures and performance issues.

Defence Minister Richard Marles announced the Taipan fleet will not return to flying operations ahead of their planned withdrawal date of 2024. "We have made clear that we wouldn't be flying these aircraft again until the investigations were completed, that we understood what happened and made any rectifications that needed to occur," he said.
