Shadow Cyber Security Minister James Paterson says the government’s move to permanently ground the ADF’s Taipan helicopters is a sensible decision. The announcement comes after four soldiers were killed when a Taipan crashed into the sea near Hamilton Island during military exercises off Queensland. “There have been known performance and safety issues with the Taipan platform for some time,” Mr Paterson told Sky News Australia. He said the previous Coalition government initiated a process to acquire the Black Hawk helicopters to replace the Taipans. “Again, I’m pleased that the Albanese government has followed through on that decision and will be acquiring those Black Hawks to replace the Taipans.”
