Cate Campbell is gearing up for a stunning comeback to professional swimming with an eye to the Paris 2024 Olympics. 7NEWS
Competing at the Brisbane senior metro championships, Campbell smoked the field in the 100m freestyle with a slick time of 53.52.The 30-year-old had hung up the togs after Tokyo, and even joined Channel 7’s 2022But the all-time swimming great is back in a big way and, although having to rediscover most aspects of competition swimming, she said there was “one thing” she will never forget.
“I was 10 years old when I first raced in this pool. Now, 20 years later, it’s fitting that it was the first pool I raced in on my comeback for Paris 2024,” she said.“I’d forgotten how nervous racing makes you. I’d forgotten how tight racing suits are. I’d forgotten how hazardous warm-up pools can be.“I’d forgotten how alive you feel standing behind the blocks. I’d forgotten the thrill of hearing the starters gun and the satisfaction of hitting the wall after a well executed race.
